Aron Lund is a fellow at The Century Foundation. A Swedish writer specialized in Syrian and Middle Eastern politics, he has previously worked with the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, the Swedish Institute of International Affairs (UI), and the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI). In 2018–2020, he headed the TCF project “Insurgent Fragmentation and State Attachment in the Syrian Civil War” with support from the Harry Frank Guggenheim Foundation. Since 2020, he is a Middle East security analyst at the Swedish Defense Research Agency (FOI). He is also a fellow with the Centre for Syrian Studies at St. Andrew’s University. Lund’s publications include two Swedish-language books, Drömmen om Damaskus (2010) and Syrien brinner (2014), the English-language Divided They Stand: An Overview of Syria’s Political Opposition Factions (2012), and, as co-author, Hybrid Actors: Armed Groups and State Fragmentation in the Middle East (2019). He has an M.A. in Arabic from Uppsala University and has studied in Damascus, Algiers, Cairo, and Amman.
