TCF World Podcast: Kurdish Nationalism at an Impasse

April 30, 2019By Thanassis Cambanis, Cale Salih and Maria Fantappie
From Century International
IRAQ. Barzan. July 14, 2014. The sun rises over a memorial cemetery in the village of Barzan, the hometown of Kurdish leader Masoud Barzani, where the remains of 603 Kurdish villagers, killed by Saddam Hussein forces during the late 1980's Al Anfal campaign against the Kurds, have been laid to rest.
Many of the victims were sent to southern Iraq, where they were executed or buried alive in mass graves. The remains of 603 Kurdish villagers from Barzan found in mass graves in southern Iraq have been returned and laid to rest in this memorial cemetery on a hill outside the village.
