Following Senate passage of the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022, which includes historic investments in climate change programs as well as economic relief for many Americans, Mark Zuckerman, president of The Century Foundation, made the following statement:

“After more than a year of negotiations, the Senate has succeeded in passing the historic Inflation Reduction Act of 2022. This legislation will go a long way to help Americans—it includes the most significant climate investment from Congress ever, a critical step forward toward addressing our climate crisis. The package would also make health care more affordable for many Americans, lowering the cost of prescription drugs for seniors as well as insurance rates under the Affordable Care Act, and require large corporations to pay a fairer share of taxes.

“Though this is a less comprehensive package than many had hoped for—leaving out provisions that would make child care more affordable and accessible, reduce the maternal health crisis, and other priorities—the Senate’s passage of the Inflation Reduction Act is a highly significant and important achievement. The House should move quickly to pass this legislation and send it to President Biden’s desk for signature.”
