The movement for integration in education and housing is taking place amid unprecedented challenges facing our country. That’s why The Century Foundation’s Bridges Collaborative is proud to launch its second national convening as we attempt to promote integration in 2021 and beyond. Our cohort of fifty-plus partners—school districts, charter schools, and fair housing organizations—will address the challenges of today while learning from the history of housing and school segregation.

The general public is invited to join three talks during the convention. (Collaborative Members will access these events through their normal convening registration and login process – they do not need to register here).  Please see the schedule below.

History as Liberation: Diverse Perspectives on the Past and Present of Segregation

A panel of historians and Bridges members talk about the history of segregation in communities around the country and relate that history to present efforts to promote integrated classrooms and neighborhoods. The panel will be moderated by Tamani Powell (Bridges member from Wake) and features Brianda Cervantes (Bridges member from Roaring Fork), Samuel Brown (Bridges member from Tucson Unified), Peggy Churn, and Dr. Kim Cary Warren.

A Chat with Dr. Linda Darling-Hammond on School Integration

Bridges Director Stefan Lallinger will host a fireside chat with Dr. Linda Darling-Hammond on school integration, including historical context on integration, current efforts to promote integration, and her thoughts on the future of school in the United States.

Segregation and Desegregation in the Twentieth Century: Lessons for Today’s Efforts

Panelists Dr. Andre Perry, senior fellow at the Brookings Institution and author of Know Your Price; Lisa Rice, president and CEO of the National Fair Housing Alliance; and Michelle Adams, professor of constitutional law at Cardozo Law School discuss segregation in the twentieth century and lessons for today’s practitioners in addressing segregation. This event will be moderated by Miguel Solis, executive director of Coalition for a New Dallas, and a Bridges Advisory Board member.
