AL-FOHUD, IRAQ - JUNE 3: A Marsh Arab guides his boat through a marsh area that is slowly being re-flooded with water June 3, 2003 in Al-Fohud, Iraq. The Marsh Arabs have inhabited the swamplands in the area for approximately 5,000 years, but their lifestyle was virtually destroyed by Saddam Hussein following the 1991 Shiite uprising in the region. Hussein constructed dams and diverted waterways to drain the marshes in an effort to destroy the Marsh Arabs. Following the war, some dams have been re-opened allowing the marshes to slowly begin to refill and some Marsh Arabs are beginning to return to their old lifestyle. (Photo by Mario Tama/Getty Images)
