Eduard Nilaj is a visiting senior fellow at The Century Foundation and a fellow with Protect Borrowers (formerly Student Borrower Protection Center). He is an economist specializing in consumer credit and wealth inequality, with a focus on how debt affects financial health and economic mobility. Prior to joining TCF, Nilaj was a senior research associate at the Jain Family Institute, authoring a series of reports on the student debt crisis, analyzing the systemic impacts of negative amortization, barriers to homeownership, debt cancellation, and the effects of the pandemic-era repayment pause. His research has been cited in amicus briefs to the U.S. Supreme Court and featured in the New York Times, the Washington Post, and Bloomberg. Nilaj holds a PhD in Economics from The New School for Social Research.
