Claire E. Sylvan is the Founder and Senior Strategic Advisor for Internationals Network for Public Schools and has worked with immigrants/multilingual learners for over forty-five years as a community and workplace organizer, public secondary school educator, teacher educator, researcher, school developer and advocate. In 2004, Claire founded Internationals Network, which has expanded from four New York City high schools in 2004 to thirty-one schools and academies. These schools serve more than 9,000 multilingual learners from about 109 countries in California, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Virginia, and Washington, D.C. Claire’s research and writings span heritage and native language development programs, educational designs, pedagogies, practices, and assessments that build on the assets of adolescent multilingual learners. In addition, Claire co-founded and co-directs the Deeper Learning Equity Fellows.
