Alan Sagner is a successful real estate developer who has spent decades in public service.
He served as commissioner of the New Jersey Department of Transportation during Governor Byrne’s first term and during his second term as chairman of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. He was finance chair for the 1973 and 1977 Byrne gubernatorial campaigns. In 1994, President Clinton appointed him to the board of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, for which he later served as chairman. He has been a trustee of the Democratic National Committee, organized and chaired the New Jersey Business Council for Clinton-Gore, and served as a delegate to two Democratic National Conventions. He also has been president of the board of trustees, Newark Beth Israel Medical Center; vice president, Health and Hospitals Council of Metropolitan New Jersey; trustee, New Jersey College of Medicine and Dentistry; board member, Regional Plan Association, New York City; board member, Business Executives for National Security; board member, 42d Street Development Corporation; and board member, Paper Mill Playhouse.
He received a BA degree from the University of Maryland and an MA from Columbia University,
