NEW YORK – The Century Foundation, one of the nation’s oldest think tanks, announced a promotion and location change today for two of the organization’s foreign policy experts:

Fellow Michael Wahid Hanna has been named a senior fellow and will continue his research and work on broader Middle East and South Asia.

Hanna has published widely on U.S. foreign policy in newspapers and journals, including the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, the Boston Globe, the Christian Science Monitor, the New Republic, and World Policy Journal. He is a frequent contributor to Foreign Policy, and appears regularly on NPR, BBC, and al-Jazeera. Prior to joining The Century Foundation in 2007, Hanna was a senior fellow at the International Human Rights Law Institute and an associate at the law firm Cleary, Gottlieb, Steen & Hamilton. Hanna was a Fulbright Scholar in Cairo, Egypt, where he studied the relationship between Egyptian nationalism and Arab nationalism in the inter-war period. Hanna is a term-member of the Council on Foreign Relations.

Fellow Thanassis Cambanis is on assignment in Beirut, Lebanon, and will continue his writing and research on Egypt and Arab politics for The Century Foundation.

Cambanis is the author of A Privilege to Die: Inside Hezbollah’s Legions and Their Endless War against Israel (2010). His next book, on the efforts of Egyptian revolutionaries to create a new political order, will be published this year. Cambanis is an adjunct professor at Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs and writes regularly for The Boston Globe and The Atlantic.

“The Century Foundation has a proud history of advocating American foreign policy that will engage the world community and bring us closer together,” said Janice Nittoli, president of The Century Foundation. “Our fellows continue to be the backbone of our organization and we are proud of Michael and Thanassis and very excited about their new roles and opportunities with us.”

The Century Foundation, founded in 1919, has offices in New York City and Washington, D.C., and provides creative, progressive solutions to our important domestic and international challenges.
