In response to the passing of longtime AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka, TCF President Mark Zuckerman released the following statement:
“TCF joins the nation in mourning the tragic passing of AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka, and we send condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues. Trumka was one of the most dynamic, effective, and tireless labor leaders in generations. A third-generation coal miner, he understood firsthand the challenges that working people in this country face, and he dedicated his life to being their voice and championing their rights.
“Rich was not only a fierce advocate for working people, but an exceptional man who helped to broaden the labor movement’s tent and stand in solidarity with other struggles for racial and social justice. He tangibly improved the lives of countless Americans over the years, and his absence will be deeply felt by everyone whose life he touched. We must honor his life and legacy by embodying the words he so frequently spoke: ‘This isn’t the end of the fight; it’s the beginning.’”
