Maternal Health

With one of the highest rates of maternal mortality in the industrialized world, the United States faces a maternal health crisis driven largely by racial health disparities and the impacts of systemic racism. Black and Indigenous women are over three times as likely to die from pregnancy related causes and face much higher rates of health complications from pregnancy. The Century Foundation’s research and expertise help drive equitable maternal health policy to ensure that all birthing people are able to have a safe and healthy pregnancy, to thrive in the postpartum period, and to parent the children they have with dignity.
