The Century Foundation is pleased to announce the appointment of Sonal Shah and Damon Silvers to its board of trustees.

TCF board chairman Bradley Abelow said: “Sonal Shah and Damon Silvers are leaders in their respective fields and bring considerable skill, expertise and experience to the Foundation. I welcome them to TCF and look forward to working with them to continue Century’s longstanding commitment to advancing economic opportunity and promoting equality.”

Sonal Shah is professor and the founding executive director of the Beeck Center for Social Impact & Innovation at Georgetown University. She was formerly the deputy assistant to the president and founding director of the White House Office of Social Innovation and Civic Participation in the Obama administration.

“The Century Foundation has an extraordinary record in fostering innovative solutions to our nation’s public policy challenges. I am delighted to have the opportunity to play a role in this proud organization’s next phase,” said Shah.

Damon A. Silvers is the director of policy and special counsel for the AFL-CIO and serves on a pro bono basis as a special assistant attorney general for the State of New York. He is also a member of the Investor Advisory Committee of the Securities and Exchange Commission, the Treasury Department’s Financial Research Advisory Committee, and the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board’s Investor Advisory Group.

“Reducing inequality, ensuring greater economic prosperity, and strengthening worker protections are core values that I share with The Century Foundation. I’m honored to be joining the board of a think tank whose historical achievements include helping to shape the Securities Exchange Act of 1934, creating the National Labor Relations Board, and defending against attacks on Social Security,” said Silvers.

TCF president Mark Zuckerman said the new board members will strengthen the Foundation’s research rigour and policy impact, bringing experienced and creative thought leaders to an already distinguished Board of Trustees.

“Sonal Shah and Damon Silvers bring decades of rich experience in public service, social innovation, and economics.  With their leadership, The Century Foundation is even better positioned to promote new solutions to our nation’s most critical policy challenges,” said Zuckerman.
